Haibike xDuro Trekking RX 28 (2016)

Comfort and joy, comfort and joy. Those very words from the classic Christmas carol could easily be applied to the Haibike xDuro Trekking RX 2016, because if you want do some serious all-day riding on lengthy tours, then this is the best present you could give to yourself.

Power-wise, it’s got the top 500Wh Bosch battery (five hours for a full charge) which should see you riding around 100 miles or more, dependent as always on variables. Propelled by the top Bosch Performance CX crank drive motor, your output is 75Nm of torque (over four assistance levels), enough to go up, and keep going up, the longest of hills. Even if you want to commute a few miles into work, you’ll be able to arrive completely sweat-free - it’s such an impressive-looking bike, it wouldn’t look strange to see a sharply dressed city trader riding in on it. Much more ‘eco’ than a Porsche!

If you need to stop quickly, the Tektro Gemini hydraulic disc brakes are fast-action, and are self-cleaning with mineral oil inside those cables.

There’s little chance of getting a puncture with the Schwalbe Energiser Tour tyres, as a Kevlar puncture lining is protecting you from nasty glass and thorns, and the 28” wheels are still fast-rolling, and suitable for tarmac or light gravel. You should be able to get quite a speed going on long downhills. Add in the large Shimano XT 11 speed cassette (11-42t) to give you a far greater balance and variation from those 11 gears.

It’s a comfortable riding-style all the way, with the wide handlebars, 2" frame drop on this unisex model (designed to maintain a better riding position), smooth Salle San Marco saddle, and Rockshox suspension (Gold TK) perfectly suiting the 700cc wheels. If the surface changes from tarmac to trail, there’s an in-ride adjustable lockout, a switch and button system.

The Haibike Trekking RX also features all the extras you’d expect, with built-in headlights (controllable via the Intuvia display), full-length mudguards, a 25kg max pannier rack, and a kickstand.

All-day touring doesn’t get any better than this. There really isn’t a better-equipped and powered electric bike on the market. You can even add the Bosch Nyon display system (GPS, maps, fitness) onto it if you like. The ultimate trekker.
