Aspen cops get fat electric bike assistance

Aspen police officers have a new tool in the fight against crime - electric bikes.

The fat-tyre models (in appropriate black) are used by military veterans keen to get out and about and be of use to the local police force.

Ex-British Army serviceman David Mills, an Aspen resident, recently sold the two electric-motor-assisted bikes to the Aspen Police Department.

The Aspen police’s only caveat was ‘studded tires (for winter).’

At $2,700 each, they have 750watt motors for a fast 25mph top speed.

Officer Braulio Jerez, an avid mountain and road biker, says he likes them because they can go places cars can’t, and if he gets a call at Truscott or Burlingame, he can get there quickly without tiring himself out.
