Cycling to work, a few of us do it, and the prospect of less congestion, air pollution, better fitness are surely appealing to all of us.
There’s a new cycle to work initiative that sounds promising. You tell them how far you’ll be riding to work and how many times a week, and your employer will pay Free2Cycle 20p per mile. So if you ride ten miles to work (electric bikes are going to be offered, apparently), and you do that five times a week, that works out at £4 a day, £20 a week, £80 a month. So on that basis, I would imagine you could own the bike from around six to twelve months perhaps.
Free2Cycle are currently seeking registrations of interest from employers, employees, and bike shops. We’ll watch this one with interest - if it helps get more people on two wheels, we’re always happy.
