East Sussex County Council will receive £1.2 million from the Department for Transport to deliver cycling and walking initiatives aimed at improving access to work, education and training. Other local authorities, such as Kent, have also received funding. Newhaven, Eastbourne, Bexhill and Hastings will be particular beneficial areas. Funds will support new ‘cycle hubs’ (training and maintenance), the Wheels 2 Work scheme (rent motorbikes and scooters to get to work), and a similar scheme called Pedal Power for cycle or electric bike loans.
